Outlet Installation for Older and Newer Queens Homes
If you've ever run a power strip off another power strip to reach the far side of a bedroom, you already know the problem. Many Queens homes were wired when a room needed one or two outlets. Today, the same room holds a TV, a gaming console, phone chargers, a lamp, a fan and maybe an air purifier. Extension cords become permanent fixtures, and that's where trouble starts.
Proper outlet installation puts power where you use it. Every new outlet we add is planned around the circuit feeding it, so we're not just moving the overload to a new spot on the wall.
GFCI Outlets: Where Queens Homes Need Them
GFCI outlets cut power within a fraction of a second when they detect current leaking somewhere it shouldn't, like through water or a person. Code requires them in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, garages, unfinished basements and outdoors, among other places. Plenty of older Queens kitchens and bathrooms still don't have them. Given how many basements in Jamaica, Flushing and Corona have taken on water during heavy storms, GFCI protection in those spaces is one of the best safety upgrades you can buy.
Two-Prong to Three-Prong Outlets, Done Right
This is one of the most common requests we get in prewar Astoria and Jackson Heights apartments. Simply swapping a two-prong outlet for a three-prong one, without a ground wire behind it, creates an outlet that looks safe but isn't. There are two correct ways to do it. We can run a ground wire to the outlet, or install GFCI protection, which code allows as a replacement for ungrounded outlets, labeled as having no equipment ground. We'll explain which works for your walls and your budget.

Dedicated Circuits and 240-Volt Outlets
Some appliances need a circuit of their own. Window and through-wall AC units, microwaves, dishwashers, space heaters and home gym equipment can overload a shared circuit fast. Bigger loads, like electric dryers, ranges and plug-in EV chargers, need a 240-volt outlet. For car charging, see our EV charger installation service. If your panel has no room for new circuits, we may recommend an electrical panel upgrade.
USB-C, Outdoor and Countertop Outlets
USB-C outlets free up plugs and get rid of charger bricks in kitchens and bedrooms. Outdoor outlets with weatherproof in-use covers work for patios, string lights and holiday decorations. Pop-up countertop outlets keep a kitchen island clean. All new receptacles we install in living spaces are tamper-resistant, which keeps small kids from pushing objects into the slots.
What Does Outlet Installation Cost in Queens?
Replacing an existing outlet with a GFCI or USB-C model is a quick job. Adding a new outlet costs more, especially when we need to fish wire through plaster walls or brick. A new dedicated circuit for an appliance means a new breaker and a longer wire run. Most of the time, grouping several outlets into one visit costs less than doing them one at a time. While we're there, many customers also add lighting installation or have a flickering circuit checked as part of electrical repair.
